I love summer!

And one of my favorite things about summer is WATERMELON!
(sorry cantaloupe... you're pretty good too.)

Everything looks fun and fabulous on these cute plaid plates my friend Lindsey gave us as a wedding gift. It's like every meal is a picnic! (and the summery table cloth is from our wedding!)

Fancy Pants!

Katie visited for a week, and one night Chris brought home some bubbly to celebrate... well, nothing!  We're big believers in celebrating everyday life. =]

We decided to go fancy and use the Waterford crystal flutes we received as a very generous wedding present:

Buttercream Frosting

Is there anything better than buttercream frosting?
I don't like to eat a lot of frosting, but there is something amazingly amazing about buttercream frosting.
It is love on a cupcake.
For our wedding, the girls made our wedding cake: chocolate-chocolate-chip cupcakes with buttercream frosting.
Does anything sound better than that?  Don't I have the best girlfriends ever?

City Hall Weddings

San Francisco City Hall

A friend of mine just got engaged and is considering a city hall wedding.  I LOVE looking through wedding blogs and websites, so of course I have been scouring the internet for inspiration.

Bonus: she lives in Alameda (just across the bay from San Francisco), so she has access to San Francisco's gorgeous City Hall.

Here are some of the sites I found:

Beautiful wedding in SF!  I think it's a great idea to get a good photographer no matter where or when or how you get married: http://www.sashaweddingphotography.com/blog/2011/02/10/oliver-heidi-san-francisco-city-hall-wedding/

Some good info about SF City Hall weddings (up to 100 people can come!): http://www.rebeccawilkowski.com/blog/san-francisco-city-hall-weddings/

These pictures are SO cute and I love these fun shoes: http://www.projectwedding.com/blog/2010/08/09/sweet-simple-city-hall-wedding/

LOVE this dress! And I like that this is a city hall wedding, but they really did it up.  Just because it's at city hall doesn't make it any less of a big event!!   http://www.100layercake.com/blog/archives/4377

Fabric Flowers and Freezing Temps

Brrr!!  It's freezing today!  I am a little sick of cold weather.  But, I made chili the other day and I'm having a hot bowl of it now.  I have to admit it's fun when it's cold outside and you can do warm things inside like eat chili and... make fabric flowers!  Inspired by so many fabric flowers I've seen lately, I decided to sit down and figure out how to make them.  I've made a few different versions, and I glued several of them to barrettes as a Valentine's gift to my adorable 2- and 4-year old nieces.

This is the fabric flower I wore in my hair at our wedding.  I had it made to match my dress.  Now that I know how to make them myself, I'm hoping one day I can make one for someone else's wedding day!

Honeymoon

This is a little owl doll I made named Honeymoon.  Isn't she so cute?

Here are some other dolls I've made (except the bird in the middle, Mac) with Honeymoon.

The owls were practice for our cake-toppers:

They were a little wobbly up there!

I really love this drawing.

Jars Jars Jars

We have lots of left-over jars from our wedding.  I love it!  We drink out of them, use them to hold oats and honey and coffee and other ingredients, we put candles in them, and we even use one as a toothbrush holder.

Here are some of the ways we used them at the wedding:

All of these photographs were taken by the fabulous Michelle King.  http://mkingphoto.com/
