Here's a very late update from this post.

These are the birds I ended up making for Ashley.  =]

Dance

Katie got me hooked on So You Think You Can Dance a couple of years ago, and now I'm realizing that I love dance so  much I need to put effort into getting to dance performances.

I'm really mad at myself for missing this:
Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana
And I really want to go to this this Saturday:
River North Dance Chicago
In general, I just want to go to performance at Diana Wortham more often. Sigh.

It's been a while...

but sometimes something so important happens that you realize you need to blog about it, even when you haven't blogged in 1 year and 7 days (also known as 1 year and 1 week) (last year was a leap year, which is why Feb 28, 2012 was not 1 year and 6 days ago).

Anyhoo, back to the point:

About a year ago, a new bakery opened downtown, called Karen Donatelli.  It took me forever to get my butt in there, but holy ... cow.  Today I went for the second time and had the. most. amazing. chocolate. croissant. of. my. life.  And really good coffee to boot.

The croissant was filled with dark chocolate that was somehow melty even though the pastry was room temperature.  Like some chocolatier of the gods made high quality dark chocolate that melts inside the croissant while baking, and then holds on to that magical creamy consistency forever and ever.  And there's not lack of chocolate inside this delectable snack - not like those ones where there's one measly strip of hard chocolate that comprises about 1/80 of the croissant.  This thing is filled all the way through with almost too much (as if that would ever be possible) rich chocolatiness.

There it is!  Top right.  Feeling a little weepy just seeing it again.
Got the pic here.

OK I'm exhausting from reliving that experience and typing about it.  More blogging to come, maybe.

I want a hutch!

I have been wanting a hutch really bad, but I've been too cheap to buy one.
And too lazy to carry it up 2 flights of steps.
And getting no support from the husband.

So, I made one!  And it only cost about $3!
The new 2D hutch. Looking good!

So hard to be creative...

Well, today I'm taking my own advice.  I tell my students that when they can't think of what to write, they should be writing I can't think of what to write.

Over the past few years I've found that it is so hard to be creative when work is intense and exhausting.  Even when I feel energetic and up for doing something creative, my brain just laughs at me! That has been part of my blogging problem...  most days I'm pooped and just can't think of anything to write!

But aha my advice is working, and I will add this, since I haven't already:
My new fashion muse, Janie Cai.

I'm tempted to call in lesbian-chic, but maybe it's more women-looking-better-than-men-in-men's-clothes.

I have been given 2 blazers that I plan to wear as soon as it is cool enough (this is happening far too rapidly for my taste) and they are washed (I tried to wear one the other day before washing it and I was in sneezeville all morning).

School has started

And it is kicking my ass!  But, I love it.

So far the year is going well, even though I am tired and mentally and emotionally overloaded (just a touch... most of the time).  Luckily, my coworkers are fun and awesome, my class is great, and I still find driving to work in the new car really cool.

I have had a hard time these last few weeks keeping up with personal stuff (email, phone calls, craft projects, and oh yeah... this blog), but I have maintained some social hanging out and been able to sleepily wave hello to Chris when he comes home after work. I don't think I've cooked dinner in a month, so that's a little goal to work toward...
